Although molybdenum is a rare metal, it is widely traded around the world.
A total of $794 million was transacted in 2019. China is the largest exporter of molybdenum country, accounting for 45% of global molybdenum production. However, China has recently shifted from being the largest exporter of molybdenum to a country that imports and uses more molybdenum as steel restructuring and environmental regulations are tightening and as the government places controls on production.
The largest importer of molybdenum is the United States, reaching $103 million. Since many molybdenum minerals are being used around the world, its price has risen as well. Although products contain this rare metal in small amounts, it has a great influence on the products because it is an essential element. Moreover, as the range of uses of molybdenum has substantially increased, its value continues to increase further.
